ABOUT THE IMAGE and THE PHOTOGRAPHER - Originally from Texas, but too much a skier to remain there, Rick McClain relocated to Utah over twenty five years ago and has been skiing Alta and creating photographic images ever since. Most pictures of Altašs Torchlight Parade, while showing the fireworks and torches, were too dark to show the mountain itself. Rick wanted to capture Alfšs High Rustler, Eaglešs Nest, Regal Chute, Stone Crusher, Lone Pine, Jitterbug and all the other runs. He felt it was important for people to be able to see every mogul, every detail and to be able to show their friends where they skied! For all this to happen, he needed perfect lighting, a full moon and a clear night. He had to wait several ski seasons for all of these things to coincide. New Yearšs Eve of Altašs 50th Anniversary, 1988-89 ski season was the right time.....and it happened to be a Blue Moon that night, too! With that in mind, he trudged up the mountain with his large format camera in his pack and his hefty tripod over his shoulder to create this image.
